Hi Raptor Timmy,

Gosh almighty I couldn't agree more with your sentiments on the OUTSTANDING ride!

I visited Rocky Point in Warwick RI back in the early eighties and this ride was the highlight of the park for me. Unfortunatly I havn't seen *ANY* more since:( As a double bummer Rocky point closed in the mid 90's:-(

I agree that the Sky Wheel is an awesome ride. It's one of my all-time favorites. I am not aware of any permanent Sky Wheel installations at any parks besides those you have mentioned. At the end of the 1999 season, it was reported on rec.roller-coaster that Lake Winnie removed theirs. I'm really sad to see this ride continue to disappear.

Don't think the Ocean City, MD one is still there - but the Iowa State Fair has one! It's in Des Moines, IA, and the double Ferris Wheel is there every year (this is posted 5/2014)

I'd ridden the ones many, many years ago at Revere Beach, MA and at the Rochester, NH fair, as a teen (I'm now a 61 year OCF).

Fast forward to not all that long ago, and when I discovered FunSpot Kissimmee had one (2008), I knew I had to make a stop there someday just for that. Which I finally did, a few years back. It is no longer there, however, probably because as previously mentioned people in general just did not want to ride it. I mean, what, were people scared to ride? Who woulda thunk it!
We had to literally search for a ride op to let us on it during our visit. The link below is not my video, but see how there is no one else on either wheel. No ride survives for long when that becomes the norm.

It's a shame too, because the double Ferris wheel is the SCARIEST RIDE IN THE WORLD! Roller coasters and such cannot compare!

I rode it at my local fair (Jacksonville Agricultural Fair) some years ago. It's no longer there, as the fair changed amusem*nt companies, with a different midway.

The Skywheel definitely has an unique experience to it, which IMO makes it more fun than any ferris wheel I've ridden, maybe outside of the Wonder Wheel.

LOL, this made me realize I didn't put in my thoughts on the ride in my original reply above.

Were these scary? A bit, yes, the visual of it alone probably caused more fear in many than the ride experience.
But what a hoot said experience was.
Such fun, and I wish for some company to come up with a more "stout" looking version so long as the same ride experience is had.
I'll be ashes by the time that happens, most likely.

Man, it is a shame to hear these things are getting harder to find. They had one at the Marathon County Fair a few years ago, but I couldn't say which year in particular. But I suppose the decline is understandable- it's not a small or easy ride to haul from show to show for the shows, and if it's not profitable in a park setting, then it's bound to close for good.

I am surprised that the Skywheel is more endangered than some rides like the "Zipper" or "Sky Diver" though.

Yes it's sad that the greatest Midway attraction is almost extinct. No other ride on Earth can duplicate the skywheel. Just watching it operate let's you know it's special.
