Kirindiwela Middle School was established 62 years ago today. Facing the Nittambuwa-Kirindiwela road and about a kilometer away from the town of Kirindiwela, our school, which looks like a beautiful university ground with beautiful flowers, enriches our children wisely.

Forty-six years ago, on November 03, 1961, Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike founded the Anura Maha Vidyalaya on April 8, 1979. It was anointed as "Kirindiwela Middle High School" by President J.R.Jayawardena. The present Kirindiwela Maha Vidyalaya, which started in 1905 as "Government Boys' School" in Kirindiwela area, became a "Maha Vidyalaya" due to lack of space and became a two-day school. Guru Muhandiram like M.L.Silva, who wrote an instructional book like Sirith Maldama, were the first teachers of this school and many artists like Mahagamasekara, K.Jayathilaka were educated here.

In 1959, as a solution to the problem of lack of space, the new school, Anura Maha Vidyalaya, was built in the 25 acres of land donated by Lady Hilda Obeysekera. The past school started with 443 students and 35 teachers and 6 initial buildings. The current 05 main halls, 03 completed halls, the current general level laboratory, the industrial unit and the agricultural laboratory are the 06 buildings. The then Dompe Member of Parliament Food and Cooperatives Minister Honorable Mr. Sarathchandra Rajakaruna pioneered the development of this school into a full-fledged middle school with 05 apartment buildings. The rows of Robrosea trees that were planted under the guidance of the founding principal Mr. Cyril Ariyaratne are still standing around the playground like many gigantic giants decorating the school grounds.

In the year 1964, for the first time, 04 students from the arts department appeared for the advanced level examination, and the student Vijitasena Pinnawala got the university diploma and made the school a holiday and it is remembered today that the joy was fulfilled.

A lot of students with special interests and innate abilities in dancing, singing and dancing were born in this era. Then, for the first time, a sports counselor was appointed to the school and in addition to the art department, the high school commerce department was started. The playground, which was completed at a great cost, was covered with grass by the labor of all the students at that time.

During the period of 1965-70, the era of Mr. Joseph Wijayasekara, who held the position of Principal, was like the beginning of a new era in the school. During that time, a large number of people graduated from high school and got first place in the high school examination in the northern Colombo area. The students who left the school during this time are currently employed in government and other important jobs and about 40% of them are employed in administrative work. Built around 1980 according to a design made by the teachers of the beauty department of the school, the artistic Buddha temple with dagaba is visible on a high ground of the school like a stone with a head.

From time to time, various principals encouraged the development of this school with great effort. All those principals and teachers until then should be remembered with devotion.
